Isolation and quarantine are two common public health practices that are used to stop or limit the spread of disease. They are used to protect the public by preventing exposure to infected persons or to persons who may be infected.

Because these people may have been infected, but don’t have a confirmed medical diagnosis, so quarantine can also help limit the spread of communicable disease.

People in quarantine may be restricted on travel, may have to stay at home.
