Eating Mooncakes 吃月饼

Mom: Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival -

妈妈：今天是中秋节，

come eat mooncakes!

来吃月饼啦！

Child: Awesome, I love eating mooncakes!

宝宝：太棒了，我喜欢吃月饼！

Mom: Here's a box of mooncakes.

妈妈：这里有一盒月饼。

Everyone, come and grab a mooncake!

一人来拿一块月饼吧！

Child: What flavors do we have?

宝宝：都有什么口味的呀？

Mom: We have red bean paste, five-kernel, jujube paste, and lotus seed paste.

妈妈：有豆沙的、五仁的、枣泥的和莲蓉的。

One of them has a yolk –

其中一块有蛋黄，

let's see who's the luckiest.

看谁最幸运。

Child: I can't read the words on it.

宝宝：我不认识上面的字。

Mom: Just break it open and you'll know.

妈妈：掰开就知道了。

Yours is lotus seed paste

你的是莲蓉的，

and it has a salted duck egg yolk.里面还有一个咸鸭蛋黄。

You are so lucky!

你太幸运了！

Child: Mmm... so delicious!

宝宝：嗯……真好吃！

What is mooncake made of?

月饼是用什么做的啊？

Mom: The main ingredients of mooncakes are:

妈妈：月饼的主要原料是：

flour, eggs, sugar, food additives, and various fillings.

面粉、鸡蛋、糖、食品添加剂和各种馅。

Mooncakes contain nutrients like protein and Vitamin E.

月饼含有蛋白质、维生素E这些营养物质。

Child: Mommy, what kind of mooncake do you like best?

宝宝：妈妈，你最喜欢吃哪种月饼？

Mom: Haha, I like jujube paste,

妈妈：哈哈，我喜欢枣泥的，

but I also like to try some of the more creative mooncakes,

不过我还喜欢尝试一些创新型月饼，

such as snow skin mooncakes, low-fat mooncakes, and sugar-free mooncakes.

比如冰皮月饼、低脂月饼和无糖月饼。

Snow skin mooncakes are cool to eat,

冰皮月饼吃起来凉凉的，

low-fat mooncakes are more suitable for those who want to lose weight,

低脂月饼更适合想减肥的朋友们，

and sugar-free mooncakes are specially designed for diabetics and the elderly.

无糖月饼是专门为糖尿病患者和老年人设计的。

Oh, we also have ice cream mooncakes,

哦，还有冰淇淋月饼，

which is just ice cream made into mooncake shapes.

就是把冰淇淋做成了月饼的形状。

Child: Wow, I want to eat ice cream mooncakes!

宝宝：哇，我想吃冰淇淋月饼！

Mom: Yeah, we can try it someday.

妈妈：嗯，咱们哪天尝尝。

宝宝：妈妈，什么是中秋节啊？

Mom: Mid-Autumn Festival is a family holiday.

妈妈：中秋节是一个阖家团圆的节日。

We celebrate it on the 15th of the eighth month of the lunar calendar every year,

我们每年的阴历的八月十五过它，

which is when we have a full moon.

那一天月亮是满月。

Child: Why do we eat mooncakes during this festival?

宝宝：我们过这个节的时候为什么要吃月饼啊？

Mom: In ancient times, people would use the mooncake as an offering to the Moon God.

妈妈：古时候，人们用月饼来祭月神。

Nowadays people take it as festival food or as a gift and give it to relatives and friends,

现在人们把它当作节日食品或者礼品送给亲朋好友，

because a mooncake symbolizes reunion.

因为月饼象征着团圆。

Child: And a mooncake looks like a full moon.

宝宝：而且月饼像满月。

Mom: Exactly!

妈妈：没错！

Child: Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, Mommy and Daddy!

宝宝：中秋节快乐，爸爸妈妈！

Mom: Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

妈妈：中秋节快乐！

Child: Mommy, I've finished my lotus seed paste mooncake.

宝宝：妈妈，我吃完莲蓉月饼了。

Can I get another one?

我能再吃一块么？

Mom: Mooncakes are a bit sweet –

妈妈：月饼有点甜，

it's not good to eat too much at night.

晚上吃太多不好。

Wipe your mouth,

擦擦嘴，

and let's go outside to enjoy the moon.

咱们去外面赏月吧。

Mommy will tell you the story of Chang'e flying to the moon.
