母校 翻译（母校千万别翻译成）

再次想起“母校”，你是怎样的感受呢？想起那些年，我们一起追过的女孩；想起那些年，和小伙伴们一起度过的美好时光。

时光一去不复返，你有多久没有回去看看自己的母校了……

但是话说回来，“母校”用英语怎么说呢？

Alma Mater

Alma mater是个拉丁词，在古代指丰饶之母，也就是古罗马所说的谷物女神，也可以指“kind mother”（慈母） ，现常用来形容“母校”或“高校的校歌”。

eg：He said to his friends that his alma mater was very beautiful and had many lakes。

他和朋友说他的母校很漂亮，还有很多湖泊。

我们千万不要把“母校” 译为“mother school”，也不要翻译成“former school”。

母语 ≠ mother language

在日常口语中，我们不会用“mother language”来表达“母语”，这种说法更加不正式，我们一般用这两种表达方式：

native language：主要针对地方，当地（或出生地）的语言，还可以指（语言学）本族语或（计算机）本机语言

mother tongue：

英文释义：Your mother tongue is the language that you learn when you are a baby。

中文释义：主要指人，本国语；本民族语；衍生其他语言的原始语言

“tongue” 主要指语言，方言或人的说话能力，所以“mother tongue”自然就是指原始语言，即母语。

母公司 ≠ mother company

既然母校不是“mother school”，母语也不是“mother language”，那么母公司是“mother company”？

当然不是哦！母公司也是指总公司，这样的话用mother company是不太合适的，而应该用“parent company”或“parent firm”来表达。

英文释义：a company that owns more than half the shares of another company。

eg：The parent company of this factory is in Shanghai。

这家工厂的母公司（总公司）在上海。

子公司 ≠ son company

有了“母公司”，当然也会有子公司，但是可千万别把“子公司”翻译成“son company”，它的正确表达应该是：subsidiary corporation（company）

eg：The subsidiary company has decided to amalgamate with the parent firm。

这家子公司已决定和母公司合并。

The parent company has eight subsidiary companies。

这家公司有八个子公司。
