I 英雄小传

庄周，又称庄子。战国时代道家学派（school）的著名（notable/ well-known）思想家（philosopher），后世与老庄并称（be parallel with）。其学说崇尚（pursue）自然，推崇自由。其代表作为《庄子》，不仅具有哲学意韵（implication），而且文学性（literature）极强，有夸张的想象力。其”齐物论(Homogeneous theory)”的相对主义，对心灵自由的追崇，影响(impact)了几千年的读书人。 在他身处的战国时期“大道不行”，整个社会充斥着 （be abound with）痛苦（anguish），百姓茫然无归处（bewildering）。庄周用“化蝶的梦想”，“鲲鹏展翅的想象”叩开（open /unfold）了中国人自由世界的大门。他的一个个浪漫有趣的寓言（fable），无不彰显（highlight）中国人石破天惊（ground-breaking）、振聋发聩的艺术感染力（appeal）和创造力（creativity）。

l 英雄故事

从前有一个骑鱼的人，他喜欢做梦，拥有将梦境具象化为现实的能力，但梦里的世界总是无处安放，一如在现实中无处安放的自己。

Once upon a time, there is a man who usually rides fish and is fond of dreaming. He finds himself capable of turning his dreams into reality. But the virtual world in his dream is so grand that he finds it nowhere to place, as is with himself in the real world.

creativity /ˌkriːeɪˈtɪvəti/

n. 创造力；创造性

[近] ingenuity/ originality

[例] Mental health is the source of creativity for solving problems, resolving（v. 解决） conflict, making our surroundings more beautiful, managing our home life, or coming up with a creative business idea or invention to make our lives easier. （16·英语一·翻译）

equivalent /ɪˈkwɪvələnt/

n. 对等的人（或事物）；当量

adj. （在价值、数量等方面）相等的；等价的；等效的；等量的；同意义的

[近] counterpart,equal,parallel

(这一单词中包含了前缀“equi-”，早年学过“equal”的同学就能够很快记住词义。单词后面也包含一个常见的词根 “valent”，是不是和“value”很相似。所以合在一起就是“同等价值的，等价”的含义。)

virtual /ˈvɜːtʃuəl/

adj. [计] 虚拟的；实质上的，事实上的

(这个单词词义同学们可能会觉得很奇特，“虚拟的”与“事实上的”看起来词义很矛盾。不过同学们可以想象庄周的梦境亦幻亦真，真假难辨。我们生活中看到的虚拟游戏世界，也能拥有同样的感受。大家只要记住，在计算机领域表示虚拟的（eg; virtual reality），其他场合都是表示“现实的，事实的含义”。)

restraint /rɪˈstreɪnt/

n. 抑制，克制；约束

[近] limit/ constraint

（词根“strict”和“strain”都来源于string(绳子，线)， 一个人被绳线牵绊束缚，无法随心所欲。同学们联想下restrict，constraint和 strict，是不是都是包含"限制的"意思呢？）

infinite /ˈɪnfɪnət/

adj. 无限的，无穷的；无数的

[近] boundless

(词根“fine”表示“界限和终点”，前面加上表否定前缀“in-”，那就是“无限的”意思啦。同学们再回想下define，confine的词义，是否能够豁然开朗呢？)
