BECAUSE, BECAUSE OF, DUE TO, DUE TO THE FACT THAT, AS and SINCE, and FOR are used to explain the reason why something has happened.

BECAUSE、BECAUSE OF、DUE TO、DUE TO THE FACT THAT、AS和SINCE、FOR均可用来解释某事发生的原因。

BECAUSE:

◆ BECAUSE subject verb

◆ BECAUSE is probably the most used word that we use to introduce reasons and it focuses more on the reason.

BECAUSE是用来解释某事发生的原因最常用的词,更注重于原因。

◆ When we want to give extra focus to the reason, we can put the BECAUSE clause at the beginning of the sentence.

如需强调原因,我们可以把BECAUSE从句放在句首。

★ Everyone is really happy because tomorrow is a day off.

★ 每个人都很开心,因为明天放假。

★ Many tourists visit France because the scenery is beautiful.

BECAUSE OF

◆ BECAUSE OF noun/noun phrase

★ Many tourists visit France because of the beautiful scenery.

★ 许多游客去法国,因为那里的风景很美。

★ I stayed at home because of the weather.

★ 因为天气原因,我呆在家里。

★ We cancelled the class because of low student numbers.

★ 因为学生人数少,我们取消了这个班。

★ Because of the rain, we couldn’t have a picnic.

★ 因为下雨,我们无法去野餐。

★ Because of her excellent qualifications, she got the job.

★ 因为资质优秀,她得到了这份工作。

★ Because of her feeling tired, she didn’t go out.

★因为她觉得很累,所以她没有出去。

DUE TO:

◆ DUE TO is used very similarly to the way that we use BECAUSE OF. However, DUE TO is especially used to explain the reason for a problem.

DUE TO与BECAUSE OF的用法相似。但DUE TO更注重于解释出现某个问题的原因。

◆ DUE TO is mostly used in formal or official contexts. In everyday English, people usually use BECAUSE OF.

DUE TO大多用于正式或官方的场合。在日常英语中,我们通常使用BECAUSE OF。

★ The restaurant was closed due to the lack of customers.

★ 因为缺乏顾客,餐厅关门了。

★ He is stressed due to too much work.

★ The restaurant’s success was due largely to its new manager.

◆ DUE TO THE FACT THAT = BECAUSE

★ Everyone is really happy due to the fact that tomorrow is a day off.

AS and SINCE:

◆ AS and SINCE also introduce a reason and can be used interchangeably, but we are focusing more on the result and the reason is clear.

AS和SINCE也用来解释原因,可以互换使用,这两个词更注重结果,且某事发生的原因已经很清楚。

◆ AS and SINCE are more formal.

AS和SINCE更正式。

★ The road ahead is currently closed as/since they are being repaired.

★ 因为修路,前面的路被封了。

★ We should head back as/since it’s starting to rain.

★ 我们应该往回走,因为开始下雨了。

★ Noodles are popular as/since they’re easy to cook.

★ 面条受欢迎,因为它们很容易烹饪。

FOR:

◆ FOR表原因时,引导的是并列分句,只是对前面的分句加以解释,说明推断的理由,并且只能后置。

★ The fuel must have been finished, for the engine stopped.

★ 燃料一定用完了,因为发动机停了。

★ It must have rained last night, for the ground is wet this morning.

★ 昨夜一定下雨了,因为今天早上地都是湿的。

★ We did not go out because it was raining.

★ 因为下雨,我们没有出去。
