Respecting the Elderly 尊敬老人

Child: Mom, I don't think that elderly lady with the walker

宝宝：妈妈，我觉得用助行器的那位老奶奶

can cross the street before the light changes!

在变灯前过不去马路了！

Mom: You're right!

妈妈：你说得对！

Let's help her.

咱们帮帮她吧。

It looks like she also has some bags on her walker.

看起来她的助行器上还有几个袋子。

☀ Quickly walk up to the elderly lady

快速走向那位老奶奶

Child: Do you need some help carrying your bags?

宝宝：您需要帮忙提袋子么？

Elderly lady: Oh, thank you!

老奶奶：哦，谢谢！

Mom: Here, my daughter will carry your bag for you

妈妈：来，我女儿帮您提袋子，

and I'll help you push your walker just a little faster.

我帮您把助行器稍微推快一点。

Elderly lady: That is very kind of you, thank you.

老奶奶：你们真好，谢谢。

Mom: You're very welcome.

妈妈：不客气。

☀ Elderly lady moves on 老奶奶继续前行

Mom: It's good to take care of the elderly around us.

妈妈：照顾我们身边的老人是很好的行为。

By taking care of them,

照顾他们的同时，

we are respecting them.

我们也表达了对他们的尊敬。

Child: What does "respect" mean?

宝宝：“尊敬”是什么意思？

Mom: It means to honor someone

妈妈：意思就是尊重某人，

and to treat them in a special way.

并以特别的方式对待他们。

Someone you respect is someone you think is important.

你尊敬的人，是你认为重要的人。

We respect the elderly,

我们尊敬老人，

or our elders,

或者说长者，

because they are older than us,

因为他们比我们年长，

have lots of wisdom from living long lives,

拥有长久生活的智慧，

and they have given so much to us,

他们给予了我们太多太多，

their children and grandchildren.

我们这些他们的子孙。

They have raised the current generation of children and the adults in the workforce.

他们养育了这一代的儿童和成年劳动力。

Child: Oh, like how when Grandma and Grandpa ask for something

宝宝：哦，比如说爷爷奶奶要求我们做点什么，

and we make sure to do it?

我们一定要做，对么？

Mom: Yes, we respect them

妈妈：是的，我们尊敬他们，

by doing what they ask

就是要满足他们所要求的，

and taking care of them as they have taken care of us.

以及像他们照顾我们一样照顾他们。

Child: Well, I can give an old man my seat on the bus.

Mom: You could!

Although, he might be a gentleman and say you should keep it.

You can also help carry their groceries.

Since their bodies are sometimes too frail from old age,

they can't physically do as much as they used to.

We also have holidays like Chung Yeung Festival to show our respect to the elderly.

我们还有像重阳节这样的节日来表达对老年人的尊敬。

Even if some elderly are not grandparents,

即使一些老人不是咱们的爷爷奶奶，

we must also make sure to listen to them

我们也必须倾听他们的声音，

and be especially polite when we are around them.

在他们身边时要特别有礼貌。

We want to make sure the elderly in our community are well taken care of.

我们要让社会上的老年人都能得到很好的照顾。

Child: Okay, I will.

宝宝：好的，我会的。
