比较级前要加the吗（最高级前可不用the）

S: 老师，形容词与副词最高级前必须加the吗？

T:通常，形容词最高级前要加the, 但下列情形可不加the:

1. 副词最高级前；（the可加可不加）

He runs (the) fastest in his class.

2. 形容词最高级作表语且不与别人比较；（此时不加the）

I am busiest on weekends.

3.形容词最高级前已有限定词，如名词所有格、物主代词时；(不加the)

She is my best friend.

Shanghai is China’s largest city.

4. 当most表“非常”时，前加a。

(注意句意）

He is a most outstanding singer.

(改错或填空时，切勿只想到the most表最高级，注意a most表“very”。）

S: 明白！原来副词最高级前的the可加可不加。那比较级前什么时候用the呢?

T: 三种句型中，比较级前须加the:

1. the 比较级......，the 比较级.......句型；

The busier he is, the happier he feels.

The more, the better.

2. the 比较级 of the two.......句型；

He is the cleverer of the two brothers.

Of the two brothers, He is the cleverer.

(of the two 也可置于句首）

3. the 比较级 名词，即:比较级修饰名词作定语时。

Which is the larger city, Beijing or NewYork?

Which is larger, Beijing or NewYork?

S: 老师，劣等比较时，less后加形容词/副词原级，此时形容词副词可以是单音节词吗？

T: 当然可以。此时形容词副词没有单音节或多音节的限制，是原形就可以。因less本身就有副词词性，副级修饰形容词或副词没有音节限制。

此用法需注意：less 形/副原级 than....

相当于 not as/so 形/副原级 as，比如：

He is not so/as tall as me.=

He is less tall than me.=

I am taller than him.=

He is shorter than l.

他没有我高。

练一练：

译：我比他起的早。

S: I got up earlier than him/he.=

He got up less early than me/I.=

He didn’t get up as/so early as me/I.=

He got up later than me/I.
