A Chinese romance drama Dear Diaryhas garnered popularity and become a trending topic recently on social media platform Sina Weibo for its thought-provoking plot and delicate production.

这部9月底首播的《我的巴比伦恋人》豆瓣评分7.6，和看似中二的设定不同，这部原创剧被豆友称为电影级别的制作，也并非以雷人为恶趣味。

With a Douban score 7.6 points, the drama, also known as My Babylonian Loverin Chinese, surprised audience by reversing their first impression of a "prince-loves-me" cliche.

The original story has movie-level production, quoted from viewers' comments, looks like a comedy, deals with difficult subject matter, but is actually a tragedy that shows personal growth and women's struggle with shame.

剧中，12岁女孩陈美如在日记里编造了一部玛丽苏童话，幻想巴比伦王子从一而终的爱她、保护她，绝世美人也只能做她的配角。

一个大多数少女会有的青春幻想在老师要求当众朗读日记后破碎，面对同学和邻里对她“只会写小黄书”的嘲笑，陈美如封锁住内心的爱和欲望，长大以后成为一名时刻“hold住人生”、一板一眼的鉴黄师。

The main protagonist Chen Meiru was 12 years old when she started to develop her own fantasy about love and conjure up her courageous Babylonian prince who "will forever love and protect her" in the diary.

What she didn't expect was the prince's sudden arrival right in front of her on her birthday party as she turned 24. The childhood diary became an incantation that travels through time and Chen entangled into an epic tale of love and hate transcending 3,700 years.

However, when the handsome prince she dreamed of as a child says, "You are my destiny", while deeply gazing in her eyes and later piercing her television screen with his sword, the romance didn't go as well as the diary told.

然而貌似搞笑和羞耻的剧情背后是更深刻的意图。《我的巴比伦恋人》有对女性的关怀与尊重、对教育的反思、对童年的治愈。

Behind the comic time travel scenes and love fantasy plotline, the story wants to tell more, such as women's journey of self-conscious, reflection on education, and personal growth.

原本天真烂漫、想象丰富的陈美如因为童年的创伤被贴上了“色情”的标签，随后在封闭的乡下封锁了自己的内心，成年之后变成阉割色情的视频审核员，同时也掩藏起自己对爱与性的欲望。

Chen experienced a tough childhood according to her diary. Her aunt, who is also her teacher, asked Chen to read her diary aloud in class, criticizing the romantic content as "obscenity".

From then on, Chen was accused of writing "porn" and was humiliated by her classmates and neighbors in her hometown.

The 12-year-old girl is full of imagination and expectation for love and sex, but like most of her peers, locked her heart away and became a professional monitor who scrutinized and cut pornographic-related scenes in online videos when she was 24.

The subdued protagonist makes every effort to take control of her life, hiding her desire for love and sex in routine work. There is always a voice inside her saying "Don't talk to me. Please don't see me."

Despite Chen's special storyline, many female viewers find their own growth in the plot as they shared similar education backgrounds.

"I believe many Asian women are echoed with the humiliation to women, the restrained sex topics when growing up, as well as the hurt caused by kind intentions. The drama is full of care for women," a viewer commented on Douban.
