一般过去时的概念：它表示过去发生的动作或者是存在的状态，通常与表过去的时间状语连用，我们也可以把这些时间状语称为一般过去时的时间标志语，如：

Yesterday, the day before yesterday(前天)， last 表时间的名词（minute, hour, day, week, month, year），一段时间（基数词 表时间名词的复数形式） ago（。。。。。以前）和表过去的时间点（in 1999）.

一般过去时的基本结构：它可分为三种情况：

1、当动词为be动词时，其结构为：主语 was/were 宾语

Eg：He was a teacher ten years ago. They were students last week.

注意：am，is的过去式是was； are的过去式是were。所以was的用法与is一致，were的用法和are的用法一致。

其否定句形式为：He wasn’t (was not) a teacher ten years ago.

They weren’t (were not) students last week. （ 即在was/were后加not）

其一般疑问句形式为： Was he a teacher ten years ago？ （即将was/were 提到句首）

肯定回答：yes，he was. 否定回答：NO, he wasn’t

其特殊疑问句形式为：特色疑问词 一般疑问句语序

2、当动词为情态动词时（主要是could(can的过去式)），

其结构为：主语 could 动词原型 宾语

Eg： She could swim last month.注意：could的用法和can的用法一致，其后只能接动词原型。

其否定句形式为：She couldn’t(could not) swim last month. 即在could后加not。

其一般疑问句形式为：Could she swim last month? 即将could提到句首

3、当动词为实意动词（行为动词）时，其结构为：主语 行为动词过去式 宾语

注意：动词过去式的构成：

1、规则动词过去式的构成有四条规则：

①一般在动词原形末尾直接加上-ed。如：look-looked,learn-learned。

②以不发音的字母e结尾的动词，去e再加-ed。如：live-lived,like-liked。

③末尾只有一个辅音字母的重读闭音节，先双写这个辅音字母，再加-ed。如：stop-stopped,。

④末尾是辅音字母 y结尾的动词，先变y为i，然后再加-ed。如：study-studied，fly-flied。

2、不规则动词的过去式需特殊记忆。如：am(is)-was, are-were, go-went, come-came, take-took, have (has)-had,swim-swam,run-ran,make-made等。

Eg：Tom went to zoo last Sunday.

其否定句形式为： Tom didn’t go to zoo last Sunday. 即一般过去时的句子改否定句要借助于助动词do/does的过去式did的否定形式didn’t，用法与do/does一致，后只能接动词原型。

其一般疑问句形式为：Did Tom go to zoo last Sunday?

肯定回答：Yes，he did. 否定回答：NO, he didn’t.

其特殊疑问句形式为：特殊疑问词 一般疑问句语序

注意：助动词did 动词原型，不管是在否定句还是在疑问句中，请牢记！
