今日英语每日一练(轻松学英语每日一练)(1)

Animals are increasingly changing their shapes because of the climate crisis (危机), researchers have said. The scientists found that warm-blooded animals are changing their physiology (生理机能)in response to (回应) hotter climate. _____1_____

_____2_____ Some animals in warmer climates have historically developed to have larger beaks or ears to give off heat more easily. These differences are becoming more obvious as the climate warms. If animals fail to control their body temperature, they can overheat and die. Beaks which are not covered by feathers (羽毛) can easily exchange heat, as are ears, tails and legs in mammals if not covered by fur.

_____3_____ A bird researcher said, " Shape changing does not mean that animals are coping with (处理;应付) climate change and that all is fine. It just means they are developing to survive it."

Examples include several species (种) of Australian parrots (鹦鹉) that have shown a 4—10% increase in bill (鸟嘴) since 1871, closely connected with the summer temperature each year. Researchers have also reported tail length (尾巴的长度) increases in wood mice, and tail and leg size increases in masked shrewd (地鼠). _____4_____

_____5_____ It is unclear whether these changes will affect the animals in other ways ----- for example, bigger bills could affect how birds feed, something the scientists plan to research in future work.

A. When animals feel hot, they dive into water to give off heat.

B. A review found that the differences are particularly obvious in birds.

C. Bats in warm climates were shown to have increased wing size.

D. When animals overheat, birds use their beaks and mammals (哺乳动物) use their ears to give off the warmth.

E. The paper says that animal shape changing is likely to continue as the climate becomes warmer.

F. As the climate gets warmer, animals have to learn to control their body temperature.

G. This includes getting larger beaks (喙), legs and ears to better control their body temperature.
