Tall vs High

● When things are higher than they are wide, we usually say TALL, such as tall trees, tall chimneys, tall statues, tall ladders, tall towers, tall buildings.

● 当某物高度大于宽度，通常情况下用TALL，如trees树、chimneys烟囱、statues雕塑、ladders梯子、towers塔、buildings建筑。

★ The tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa.

★ 世界上最高的建筑是哈利法塔。

★ How tall is this tree?

★ 这棵树有多高？

● When things are shorter that they are wide, we usually say HIGH, such as high walls, high fences, high waves, high hedges, high mountains.

● 当某物的高度比宽度更短，通常情况下用HIGH，如walls墙、fences栅栏、waves海浪、hedges树篱、mountains山。

★ The highest mountain in the world is Mount Everest.

★ 世界上最高的山是珠穆朗玛峰。

★ How high is Mount Everest?

★ 珠穆朗玛峰有多高？

★ The prison is surrounded by very high walls and fences.监狱的四周是高围墙和高栅栏。

● We use HIGH to say having a large distance from top to bottom or a long way above the ground or out of our reach, such as high ceiling, high in the sky.

● 我们用HIGH来表示从上到下有比较大的距离、离地面有很远的距离，或者是够不着的地方，比如说ceiling天花板，sky天空。

★ The birds fly high in the sky.

● HIGH can also be used to talk about rank or status.

● We don’t use HIGH when we talk about people. We use TALL.

● The word HEIGHT serves as the corresponding noun for both TALL and HIGH.
