一、多、全、元Uni-, Multi-, Omni-, Meta-

词根-verse来自拉丁语动词vert，本来的含义是转动，而且应该是水平和竖直之间的转换。这一点可以从形容词vertical（垂直的，竖直的）联系起来。Versus（比，对）本身就是拉丁语词，含义是相对的。

The root “verse” comes from a Latin verb “vert”. Its original meaning is “to turn” and it should refer to the conversion between horizontal to vertical as the adjective “vertical” itself reveals such connection. Versus is a Latin word and it means “to be the opposite of”.

Universe（宇宙）的意义，从词根uni-（一，唯一）来解释，就是把一切统一在一起。其中一个重要的概念是时空连续统，包含了在时间线上的一个空间内的各种存在和事件。在电影里，有漫威宇宙和DC宇宙，本质上是漫画英雄们的编年史。

The meaning of “universe” can be explained with the root “uni-” as uniting everything into one. One important concept in it is the time-space continuum, which includes all kinds of existences and events in one space and on one timeline. In movies, there are Marvel and DC universes. In essence, they are chronicles for cartoon heroes.

Multiverse（多元宇宙），从词根multi-（很多，多个，多重）来解释，就是很多个同时存在的宇宙。一个空间中的各种存在和事件，因为单一时间线的限制，并不能展现全部的可能形态。如果允许存在多个时间线，就有多个宇宙空间，各自按照不同的时间线运行。这就是平行宇宙，加在一起就是多元宇宙。

The word “multiverse” means many universes that exists concurrently as the meaning of the root “multi-” (many, manifold) is added to the meaning of universe. The existences and events in a space cannot present all their possible forms due to the limitation to one timeline. If it is permitted that many timelines exist, then there will be many universe spaces, each running along different timelines. And these are parallel universes and, put together, a multiverse.

Omniverse是英伟达提出的概念。词根omni-的含义是“全、总、遍”。跟这个词根相关的三个词omnipresence（无所不在）、omnipotence（无所不知）、omniscience（无所不能）。不过如果离开了这个“全”，就剩下三个基本概念：存在、能力、知识。这个大概就是人类意识自身的局限，总是要用意识覆盖、支配、了解一个空间。就像凯撒所说，veni, vidi, vici（我到来，我看见，我征服）。

Omniverse is a concept proposed by Nvidia. The meaning of the root “omni-” is “all, sum, any”. There are three words formed with this root: omnipresence, omnipotence and omniscience. When the “all” idea is taken out, the three basic concepts left are “being, ability and knowledge”. This is, after all, the limitation of a human consciousness itself. Man always wants to cover, control and understand a space with his consciousness. As Julius Caesar said, veni, vidi, vici (I came, I saw, and I conquered).

Metaphysics（形而上学，玄学）本来的意义是“写在物理学之后”。因为内容比物理学抽象得多，所以被认为是超越物理学之上、更为本质的学问。

The original meaning of “metaphysics” is “to write behind physics”. Perhaps because its content is much more abstract than physics, it is generally considered as a theory beyond physics and thus closer to the essence of the world.

Two aspects of meaning can be drawn from this idea. First, it refers to intrinsic and abstract existence, for example, metamorphosis. Second, it refers to the conscious understanding and manifestation on an object itself, for example, meta-language. It includes the knowledge, expression and application of the inherent rules of an existence.

如果平行宇宙存在，就有相互影响能否存在的问题。可能的情况是有些可以相互影响，有些不能相互影响。无限多的平行宇宙之间的相互作用，必然存在相应的物理规则，超越、约定、影响单一宇宙的物理规则。Metaverse的真正意义应该是多元宇宙的统一性。

If parallel universes exist, there will be the question whether they have mutual influence on one another. The possible case is that some have and some do not. The interaction among infinite parallel universes entails corresponding physical rules that operate beyond, stipulate and influence the physical rules of individual universes. The truthful meaning of a metaverse lies in the unity of a multiverse.
