close to home引申义（Close是接近但closeto）

小伙伴们，这一期咱们来说说Close，这个单词也是个多义词，常用的含义就是“关闭”，比如close the door（关门），或closed（商店停止营业）。

同事，它也表示接近，靠近，比如My house is close to the school（我的房子离学校很近）。

不过要注意，close是接近，但close to home却不是“离家很近”？为啥？

首先从字面上看，Close to home理解成“离家很近”确实也没问题，比如I like being close to home，我喜欢离家比较近。

但是，大多数时候， close to home在口语中常常会用到它的引申义。

看看英语解释：Affecting one deeply and emotionally，也就是从情感上深深地伤害或影响到某人。

因此，close to home引申为戳到痛处，说得很露骨或者（谈论的话题）因点中要害而使人局促不安或尴尬的意思。

我发现那部电影太让人触动了——这个主题真是太戳心了。

第二个跟close相关的词组叫a close call，字面上看似是“一个关门电话”一样，啥意思？

英语解释：A situation in which you only just manage to avoid an accident，也就是在某个场景中你只是堪堪躲过一次事故。

也就是说，a close call指的是侥幸脱险，幸免于难，也可以叫做a close shave或a close thing。

英语例句：

① - Adam，you can not drive like this，that was a close call！

- Don’t worry，everything is under my control.

- 亚当，你能这样开车啊，刚刚真是侥幸脱险啊！

- 别担心，一切尽在我的掌控之中。

② We did not actually hit the other boat，but it was a close shave.

我们没有真的撞上另一艘船，但是真是侥幸脱险。

第三个词组是和生活比较贴近的——close out，因为它的含义大家都喜欢，表示降价处理，清仓大甩卖。

英语例句：

① This is a good brand of air conditioner，you’d better buy one when the store closes them out.

这是一个很好的空调品牌，你最好在商店清仓大甩卖的时候，买它一台。

② We are closing out this model of TV，so you can get a deep discount now.
