拖延也能多任务？

明明正经的工作没有做完，可精神就是集中不起来，一手拿着手机，一手握着鼠标，耳朵里还塞着耳机在听歌，宁愿在这些无关的事情上耗费时间，也不想静下来完成工作。

We sometimes use "multitasking" to distract ourselves from what really needs to be done. In other words, we are becoming "multicrastinators", people who procrastinate by performing multiple non-work tasks simultaneously.

有时候，我们会通过多个任务来分神，拖延真正要做的事情。也就是说，我们变成了“多任务拖延者”，同时进行多个与工作无关的事情，来拖延正事儿的进程。

For instance, you have a project report to finish, but you are checking Weibo, updating WeChat Moments, and watching South Korean dramas on tablet.

比如，你有个项目报告要写，可是你却在刷微博、更新朋友圈、在平板上看韩剧。

据说，只要将iPhone6手机放在自己的膝盖上，能遮住膝盖的就是i6腿。继反手摸肚脐、锁骨放硬币、A4腰之后，i6腿成为新一代的好身材标准！

Following the much hyped ‘A4 Waist’, viral trend — in which Chinese woman posted photos of themselves to prove they were as skinny as an A4 sheet of paper — the ‘iPhone6 Legs’ have taken the Chinese internet by storm this week.

继大热的“A4腰”后，“iPhone6腿”本周在中国的互联网上又掀起一股热潮。之前，不少中国女性在网上上传个人照片，证明自己的腰只有A4纸那么宽。

Chinese women are posting pictures of themselves with an iPhone6 across their thighs with their knees together to show that their thighs are as thin as the length of an iPhone 6 (13.8 cm).

一些中国女性把iPhone6手机放在并拢的膝盖上，并上传照片，向大家展示自己两腿的宽度和iPhone 6的长度一样（约13.8厘米）。

However, a number of Chinese women were disturbed by this basically unattainable beauty standard. “How can people survive being this thin?” “Such weak legs. Can we do one with an iPad?” Apple’s iPads are nearly 24 cm in length.

但也有一些女性因为这个基本无法达到的审美标准而感到不安，有人说：“这么瘦可怎么活啊？”“腿太瘦弱了，iPad腿行吗？”苹果iPad近24厘米长。

派对上“煞风景的人”

大家很高兴的在一起聚会，可是，有人一脸不悦，看什么都不顺眼，跟谁说话都没好气，好好的聚会氛围全让此人给破坏了。这样的人就像一个负能量海绵，把欢乐的气氛都给吸走了。

A fun sponge refers to a joyless or grumpy person who soaks up all the fun out of an event or situation, in a way a normal sponge sucks up liquid around it.

Fun sponge指无趣又坏脾气的人，能够“吸干”周遭环境中的一切乐趣，就像海绵吸干周遭的水分一样。

这个说法的字面意思是“欢乐海绵”，但实际上是破坏欢乐氛围的海绵，所以，我们可以称之为“欢乐终结者”。

For example:

Why did you invite him to the party? He's such a fun sponge. He is complaining about everything at the party and arguing with almost everyone he meets.

你干吗请他来派对啊？他就是个“欢乐终结者”。他一直在不停抱怨，遇上谁就跟谁起争执。

逃避电话&误拨电话

自从有了微信等即时通讯工具，好像打电话的人越来越少了。不过，有些很重要的事情还是得通过电话才能说清楚。有些事，直接打电话跟对方说可能有点尴尬，但是不说又不行，于是有些人就选择语音留言。

Stealth call is when you have to call someone back but don't want to really talk to them, so you wait until you know they can't talk and leave a voice mail.

“逃避电话”（stealth call）指当你不得不给谁回电话，但是又真的不想和他们直接讲话时，你就瞅准时间，在一个他们不可能接电话的点打过去，这样直接在语音信箱留言就行。

比如下面这个例子：

I don't want to tell Karen I can't make it tonight, so I'll stealth-call her when she's on her flight and has her phone shut off.

我不想亲口跟凯伦说我今晚去不了，所以我趁她还在飞机上、手机关机的时候打电话过去。

说到打电话，那么我们就顺便说一说跟打电话相关的另外几个说法。一个是手机装在裤兜里被误拨出去的电话，叫butt call；另外一个是出去相亲前跟朋友约好，过20分钟打电话把你解救出来的“解困电话”，英文为escape call。

我们分别来看看这两个说法的英文解释：

Butt call refers to an unintended phone call placed by sitting on one's cell phone. Maybe the phone bumped up against something in a purse or briefcase, or rubbed up against a seat belt. Or maybe the phone fell on the floor. Maybe the person just sat on their phone—which explains why some industry insiders call inadvertent dialing "butt calls."

Butt call（误拨电话）指误坐在手机上而拨出的电话。也可能是手机放在钱包或公文包里碰到了什么东西，或者碰到安全带了。也或许是手机掉到地板上了。甚至可能是有人坐在手机上了——这也正是业内人士把“误拨电话”称为butt call的原因。

跟butt call相似的另一个说法是pocket call，即手机放在衣服口袋里不小心碰到通话键而拨出的电话。

Escape callis a planned call or beep from a co-worker that allows you to feign an emergency in order to escape a particularly boring or meaningless meeting, or from a friend that helps you escape from an unsatisfying, even embarrassing blind date.

Escape call就是无聊会议期间接到事先安排好的同事来电，好让你佯装出了紧急状况逃离那个毫无意义的会议；或是相亲过程中朋友打来帮你逃离不满意对象、从尴尬约会中救出的那通电话，我们统称为“解困来电”。

国外妈妈追捧“原始人便当”

A group of mothers created a Facebook group to share paleo lunchboxrecipes for their kids to take to school, and ask advice on explaining to children why they can't eat things like bread anymore. The public group, titled 'Paleo lunchbox ideas' has almost 7,000 members from all around the world.

来自世界各地的近7000名母亲在Facebook成立了名为“原始人便当创意”的组织，专门分享为孩子制作的带往学校的“原始人”便当食谱，并询问大家如何向孩子解释为何不能吃面包等食物。

Pete Evans, the King of paleo, has come under fire recently for suggesting children drink bone broth, with one doctor suggesting this paleo recipe could be fatal to babies.

“原始人之王”彼得•埃文斯最近建议孩子们应该喝骨头汤，因此招致许多人的批评，有医生表示，对婴儿来说，原始人食谱可能是“致命的”。

The paleolithic diet (also called the paleo diet, caveman diet or stone-age diet) is based mainly on foods presumed to be available to paleolithic humans. It includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, roots, meat, and organ meats while excluding foods such as dairy products, grains, sugar, legumes, processed oils, salt, and alcohol or coffee.

“原始人饮食法”主要是采用旧石器时代的人类所使用的食材。包括蔬菜、水果、坚果、植物的根、肉类以及动物内脏器官，不包括奶制品、谷物、糖、豆类、加工过的油、盐、酒精和咖啡。

Like other fad diets, the Paleo diet is promoted as a way of improving health.

The digestive abilities of modern humans are somewhat different from those of paleolithic humans, undermining the diet's core premise.

你周围有“上镜的土豆”吗？

有的时候你一定对照片里的某些人感到好奇，心想为什么他在照片里这么好看本人却并不是如此？这样的人我们把他叫做Photato—上镜的土豆。土豆本身凹凸不平，颜色深沉，不具辨识度，就像那些现实中长相平平的普通人。

Photato(Photogenic Potato)refers to someone that looks good in a photo, but looks ugly in person.

上镜的土豆指的就是那些本人长得并不出众，却很上镜的人。

She might be someone with a small face, or a slim body, or someone who is relaxed with the camera. All those factors could make her look more beautiful in the photo than she actually is, which makes us jealous.

也许她拥有一张小脸，也许她身材苗条，也许她面对镜头很放松……这些都能让她镜头上比本人更漂亮，也让我们更嫉妒。

Example:

That girl is such a photato. If only she was as good looking in real life, as she was in her Facebook photos.

只逛不买的“假消费主义”

男人经常不明白女人为什么花那么多时间逛街却不怎么买东西，感觉很没效率，其实逛街本身也是女人的乐趣所在，在外国这甚至成为一种潮流，名为fauxsumerism（假消费主义）。

Fauxsumerismrefers to browsing products and engaging with brands without the intention of purchasing anything. The phenomenon refers to browsing for things you won’t necessarily buy, which young people consider an endless source of fun.

“假消费主义”指的是逛商店或关注某个品牌的商品但却没有购买的打算。“假消费主义”的主要表现就是只逛不买，年轻人认为“纯逛”能带来无穷的乐趣。

The rise of fauxsumerism was revealed in a recent study of 1,300 14-to-34-year olds in the US. These millenials, born between 1980 and 2000 are browsers rather than buyers. The report found they create wishlists, with no intention of actually buying. Sometimes they don’t have the money to make the purchase but save the item anyway. There is even the suggestion that these fauxsumers get the same kick out of saving an item as they would if they had bought it.

美国最近的一项研究调查了1300名14岁到34岁的年轻人，从而发现了“假消费主义”这一潮流。这些上世纪80年代到2000年出生的“千禧年一代”更喜欢逛而不是买。报告发现，他们会列出商品的心愿清单，但并不是真的打算买。有时清单上的商品他们根本买不起，但他们还是把商品放在清单上。有人指出，这些“假消费者”将商品保存在清单中所获得的乐趣可能相当于他们购买该商品所获得的乐趣。
