不同于我们熟悉的odd这个形容词，odds是名词，以复数形式出现，也是外刊高频小词，它有两个常用词义。我会分两天给大家讲解。

1.表示「概率；可能性；机会」。

英文释义是：the degree to which sth is likely to happen.

我们来看一些常见的搭配和外刊例句：

The odds are that she'll win. = it is likely that she'll win.

《经济学人》一篇关于经济局势的文章有这样一句话：

The odds are, then, that the economy is not really stalling now, which may explain why the stockmarket has for the most part shrugged off the bad news.

stack 作动词的意思是「把...堆放在一起」， 短语 the odds are stacked against sb 喻指「情况对...不利，胜算不在...这边」。英文释义是：used to describe a situation in which someone does not have a good or fair chance of winning, succeeding, etc.
