英文释义是:the degree to which sth is likely to happen.

The odds are that...

The odds are that she'll win. = it is likely that she'll win.

The odds are, then, that the economy is not really stalling now, which may explain why the stockmarket has for the most part shrugged off the bad news.

the odds of sth

You can narrow the odds of a nasty accident happening in your home by being more safety-conscious.

Rank-and-file tech workers in China, discouraged by a weakened job market and downbeat about their odds of joining the digital aristocracy, have other ideas.

You do realise that the odds of that happening are a little slimmer.

What are the odds?(口语)这是一个美剧里的高频表达, 字面义是「几率有多大?」,往往用于感叹「太巧了!」

英文解释是a possibility of sth happening, especially sth that you want。

The Economist

The Economist

✏️Chances are .../ Chances are that...

The Economist

The odds are stacked against sb

堆放在一起」, 短语 the odds are stacked against sb 喻指「情况对... 英文释义是:used to describe a situation in which someone does not have a good or fair chance of winning, succeeding, etc.

They do so partly because the odds are stacked against them. In England and Wales in the 12 months to March 2019 only 1.5% of reported rapes ended in a criminal charge.

可以把...with the odds stacked against sb.

The odds are in favor of sb / The odds are in one’s favor

The odds are stacked against sb相反,字面意思是“事情发生的概率对某人有利”,即「形势对某人有利」,英文释义是:someone is likely to succeed in what he/she is doing.
