英语单词不是一天就可以背完的（自学英语英语单词）

后天，the day after tomorrow，大家应该都学过吧，包括前天，昨天，今天，明天，是我们从初中就学会的单词或者短语。

看这个图是不是有两头臃肿的感觉？是的，前天和后天的英语表达竟然由4个单词组合而成！那这种表达方式对于英语是母语的外国人是否觉得拗口呢？

Carl，我认识的一个美国人，在中国担任培训机构的英语老师，他觉得他教的孩子经常会用The day after tomorrow来跟他说周末的活动计划，原话大概是这样：

I often thought it was strange that many students come up with these long and complex sentences such as “I will go to the beach the day after tomorrow”, when they could have just said “I’m going to the beach on Sunday”. Why would they say that mouthful “the day after tomorrow” when they could simply say “on Sunday”?

看到了吗？一个老美非常讨厌长句，而且他把时间安排说得很准确，具体到哪个“一周的哪一天”。

一、the day after tomorrow真的很少人用吗？

让我们看一下海外机构the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA)——即当代美国英语语料库做的调查表，详细展示了在各大媒体载体（口语spoken，小说fiction，杂志magazine，报纸newspaper，学术论文academic）的出现频率：

可以看到，today用的最多，yesterday和tomorrow使用频率还可以，但是the day after tomorrow基本上看不到了。

即使去掉today这个统计大头，只统计Yesterday和tomorrow字样，the day after tomorrow同样被使用的次数很少。

我们再看一下the day after tomorrow与“on 星期X”的频率对比：

我们试着想一下别的单词或者短语来替代《The day after tomorrow》，《In two days》？《on星期X》？不仅交代地不清不楚，而且感觉弱爆了……

小说用the day after tomorrow最多不奇怪，当读者沉浸在故事情节里时，很难精确知道作品里是哪一天或者星期几，除非小说里着重提到。用the day after tomorrow来表达一个时间轴，在小说里很常见。

三、the day after tomorrow到底该怎么用？

1、当文中/说话中用到tomorrow这个词以后，用the day after tomorrow能够起到一个比较好的强调效果，非常容易让对方理解，也是最常用的情况。

例：

If I don’t have time to watch the movie tomorrow, I’ll watch it the day after tomorrow.

如果我明天没有时间看电影，那我后天会去看的。

2、正式场合，工作邮件等约定时间的情况不要用the day after tomorrow，而使用具体日期或者星期几。

例：

According to the schedule, the customer will visit our farms on Tuesday.

根据时间安排，客户将在周二来我们农场参观。

3、普通场合，师生、朋友之间交流，多用in two days，少用the day after tomorrow，轻松愉快。

例：

Hi bro, I will finish my job in two days, let’s have a party!
