我们把intend分成两部分in-，还有tend。

第一部分in-表示“在里面”，跟我们学过的单词in是一样的理解

第二部分tend表示“伸展，延伸”的含义，tend这个本身就是一个单词表示“趋向”，它来自于拉丁语tendere，表示延伸，拉长，因此它可以理解为是一种动态的趋势。

结论：把in-的“在里面”，和tend的“伸展”，合并起来后，intend便可以理解为“从脑袋里伸出来一个意图”，因此翻译成“打算”。

这个单词是一个及物动词，在中学阶段我们主要学习两种用法。

第一种是intend to do sth，表示“打算做某事”

例子：My father intends to return home after his careful decision.

第二种是sth be intended for ...，表示 “某物被用于...，目的是为了”。

例子：The money is intended for market promotion.这笔钱是用来做市场推广的。
