One day, Pip was walking home from the library.
A fox was following her, but she wasn’t scared.
Pip wasn’t big or strong, but she was a clever little chick.
Suddenly, the fox jumped out.
“How are you, little chick?” he said.
“I’m fine, thank you,” said Pip.
“No, you’re not,” snarled the fox.
“I’m going to eat you for my lunch.”
一天，小鸡皮普从图书馆出来一路走回家
一只狐狸跟在他身后，但皮谱一点儿也不害怕。
皮普不高也不壮，可她很聪明。
突然狐狸跳了出来。
“你好吗，小小鸡？”他说。
“我很好，谢谢你。”皮普平静地说。
“你不好。”狐狸恶狠狠地说。
“因为我就要把你当作午餐吃掉了。”
The fox licked his lips and opened his mouth wide.
“Wait!” shouted Pip. “You can’t eat a chick for lunch without bread.”
“Can't I?” said the fox.
“No. It says so in my book,” said Pip.
The fox thought about this. He did like sandwiches.
“I’ll get some bread,” he said. “Wait here!”
He started to run to the farmer’s house. Then he stopped.
“You can’t trick me,” he said. “I’m taking you with me.”
狐狸舔舔嘴唇，张开了嘴巴。
“等等。”皮普叫到，“你的午餐不能没有面包，而只有一只小鸡。”
“我不能吗？”狐狸问。
“不能，我的书上就是这么说的。”皮普回答。
狐狸想了一会儿，的确它更喜欢吃三明治。
“我去找面包。”他命令道，“你等在这儿。”
他朝着农夫的房子跑去，跑了几步，狐狸突然停住了。
他回过身说：“你可骗不了我，我要带着你一起去。”
The fox went to the farmer’s house and took some bread.
“Time for lunch!” said the fox.
“Wait!” shouted Pip. “You can’t eat a chick sandwich without salt.”
“Can’t I?” said the fox.
“No. It says so in my book,” said Pip.
狐狸跑进农夫的房子，拿了几片面包。
“午餐时间到。”狐狸高兴地说。
“等等。”皮普叫到，“没有盐你不能吃鸡肉三明治。”
“我不能吗？”狐狸问。
“当然不能，我的书里就是这么说的。”皮普说。
The fox thought about this. He did like salt on his sandwiches.
“I’ll get some salt,” he said.
The fox took some salt form the farmer’s house.
He put it on his sandwich.
狐狸想了一会儿，的确它更喜欢吃撒盐的三明治。
“我去拿点盐。他说。”
狐狸又跑到农夫的家里拿了些盐出来。
他把盐撒在他的三明治上。
“Time for lunch!” said the fox.
“Wait!” shouted Pip. “You can’t eat a chick sandwich without pepper.”
“Why not?” asked the fox.
“It says so in my book,” said Pip.
The fox thought about this. He was very hungry, but he did want his lunch to be the best.
“I’ll get some pepper,” he said.
“午餐时间到。”狐狸高兴地说。
“等等。”皮普叫到，“没有胡椒你不能吃鸡肉三明治。”
“为什么不能？”狐狸问。
“我的书里就是这么说的。”皮普说。
狐狸想了一会儿，他很饿了，但是他的确更希望他的午餐没有任何遗憾。
“好吧，我去拿些胡椒。”他说。
The fox took some pepper from the farmer’s house.
“You need lots and lots of pepper,” said Pip. “It says so in my book.”
The fox put lots and lots of pepper on his sandwich. He licked his lips, opened his wide and...
狐狸从农夫的家里拿出了胡椒。
“你需要很多很多很多的胡椒。”皮普说，“我的书里就是这么说的。”
狐狸在他的三明治上洒了很多很多的胡椒，然后他舔舔嘴唇，大大滴长了嘴巴……
He sneezed the biggest sneeze ever!
The sneeze was so big that it blew Pip up into a tree.
The sneeze was so loud that the farmer heard it.
He was very angry when he saw the fox on his farm.
他打了一个有史以来最大最响的喷嚏。
这个喷嚏非常大，大得直接把皮普吹到了树上。
这个喷嚏响得农夫都听到了。
看到农场里的狐狸，他非常生气。
Pip climbed down from the tree and went home.
“Did you get a good book?” asked her mum.
“Yes, very good,” said Pip.
皮普从树上爬下来，回家去了。
“你借到好书了吗？”妈妈问。
“是，我借到了非常非常好的书。”皮普答道。
