八月十五中秋节，中秋月亮亮又圆，家家户户庆团圆。说到中秋节，就不能不提一个和月亮有关的传说。今天，就让我们通过这个传说学习单词吧。

Long long time ago, there were ten suns in the sky. The scorching heat from the suns caused droughts and famine. The Jade Emperor was unhappy at this so he turned to Hou Yi, an expert archer for help.

在远古时代，天上有十个太阳，晒得土地裂开，庄稼都不长了。玉皇大帝很生气，他找到箭术高超的后羿，寻求帮助。

Despite persuading the suns to leave the earth, Hou Yi found none of them listened to him. Furious as he was, he decided to shoot them down one by one. Just as he was about to shoot the last one, the Emperor asked him to leave one sun to keep the earth warm and bright. People on the Earth were saved.

后羿劝说太阳离去，可是谁都不听他的话。气急败坏的后羿于是射箭，将太阳一个个地射下来。正当他要射最后一个太阳的时候，玉皇大帝让他手下留情，留下一个太阳给地球带来温暖与光明。人类得救了。

The Queen Mother of the West rewarded Hou Yi with a bottle of elixir that could make him immortal. But the elixir was only for one person. Although Hou Yi did want to become immortal, he wanted to stay with Chang'e more. Therefore, he didn't drink the elixir and asked Chang'e to keep it safe for him.

西母娘娘赏赐后羿一瓶仙丹，让他长生不老。可是仙丹只够一个人的量。虽然后羿也想长生不老，他更希望与妻子嫦娥长相厮守。于是，他让嫦娥保管仙丹。

As Hou Yi became more and more famous after he shot down the nine suns, people wanted him to be their master to learn archery. Not every student of Hou Yi had good morals. Pang Meng, one such student, wanted to seize his elixir.

后羿射的名气越来越大，许多人拜他为师学习射箭。然而不是每个学生都道德高尚。其中一个叫逢蒙的学生，心存不轨，想得到仙丹。

One day, Hou Yi went hunting with his students, but Pang Meng pretended to be ill and stayed at home. After making sure Hou Yi had gone, he went to Hou Yi's house and tried to force Chang'e to give him the elixir. Chang'e knew she couldn't defeat Pang Meng, so she drank the elixir immediately. The elixir made her fly higher and higher. In the end, she stopped on the moon.

一天，后羿和学生们狩猎，逢蒙假装生病在家。确认后羿离开后，他来到后羿家，逼迫嫦娥给他仙丹。嫦娥深知自己无力抵抗，于是她迅速把仙丹喝下去。仙丹让她越飞越高，最终她停到月亮上。

Hou Yi was very sad when he received the news. He looked up at the sky and hoped Chang'e could come back to stay with him. He moved a table under the moon, preparing some food on it. That day was the fifteenth day of the eight month. Since then, people have made this day as Mid-Moon Festival and offered lots of food to worship Chang’e.

后羿得知这个消息十分伤心。他向天空望去，希望嫦娥能回来和他团聚。借着月光，后羿将一张桌子搬到月下，放上嫦娥喜欢的事物。这天刚好是农历八月十五，大家就把这天定为中秋节，通过赏月、吃月饼、喝茶、点灯笼等方式纪念嫦娥。
