From the rolling sea the moon has climbed the sky;

Watching her together, 'cross a world, you and I.

With longings, I grudge against the endless night;

Again and again I miss you by the lonely light.

Unable to scoop with my hands for you the ray,

I turn to bed to dream we meet one fine day.

Sorrows

Li Yu

When would the changes of spring blooms and autumn moon come to an end?

To bear the reminiscences in mind is above my bend!

East winds blew again my little storeyed house last night;

It's sad looking back at my old country on the moonlit night!

There must be the same jade steps and carved rails,

All but the rosy cheeks have turned pale.

If you ask me how many sorrows rolling in my heart,

It is like the spring-tide surging eastward and hard.

Wang WeiAfter fresh rain in mountains bare,

Autumn permeates evening air.

Still here's the place for you to stay.

To my husband

Li Qingzhao

Amid the thin and thick clouds of sadnessI spend the long, long day;

In the brazen incense burner

The borneols are burning out in grey.

When once again comes Double Ninth,

An autumnal festival day,

The first wafts of cooling airIn the midnight finding their way,

Fan me in my bed, on my mellow pillow,

When in a mosquito house I stay.I've drunk under the evening ray;

And so a faint tinctureOf fragrance in my sleeves lay.

Don't you think that it's not

On a missing path my minds do stray,

As the bamboo screen is rolled up

With the west winds to display

The yellow chrysanthemums outside the window,

And comparing with them I'm pining away.

Tune: Spring in a Pleasure GardenChangsha

Mao Zedong

Alone stand I in autumn cold,Of Orange Islet at the head,

Where River Xiang goes north. Behold!

Hills upon hills are all in red,

Woods upon woods in crimson dressed.

The river green down to the bed,

A hundred ships in speed contest.

Far and wide eagles cleave the air;

Up and down fish glide o'er depth clear:

All creatures under frosty skies vie to be freer.

Brooding o'ver immensity there,

I wonder in this world so vast and dim,

Who decides who will sink or swim.

With many friends I oft came here.

How thick with salient days those bygone times appear!

When, students in the flower of our age,

Our spirit bright was at its height,

Full of the scholar's noble rage,

We criticized with all our might.

Pointing to stream and hill,Writing in blame or praise,

We treat'd like dirt all mighty lords of olden days.

Do you remenber still,Swimming mid-stream, we struck the waves to stay

The boats speeding their way?
