How to Study in University

Soon after coming into university, one may feel the differences between middle school and university. These differences show in both the everyday life and the studies. As far as the studies are concerned, there are much fewer exams and there isn’t anyone like middle school teachers urging① him to study. Thus, naturally, there arises the question as to the ways for studying in university.

How to study well in university? In my opinion, the most important thing is self-supervision② in both the time used for studying and what to study. As is known, university life is much more colorful than that in middle school. It is quite normal for one to prefer taking part in interesting and light activities like playing sports and computer games to dealing with dull and difficult textbooks. Without pressures from exams and teachers, one tends to spend much less time than actually needed in studying. This tendency③ should be wisely avoided. One should allocate the time for studying and other things reasonably. As to what to study, a university student should no longer study simply for the sake of passing exams and therefore confine④ his studies to his textbooks only. He had better make good use of libraries and lectures to know about other majors to expand his horizon⑤ and deepen his thoughts.

The free studying atmosphere in university somewhat serves as a touchstone⑥. Those who succeed in finding good ways in studying may lay a good foundation for their future career, while those who fail can only regret in the future for their waste of time in university.
